Take That Returns to Jakarta After 29 Years

Legendary British pop group Take That thrilled fans in Jakarta during their “This Life” concert at Tennis Indoor Senayan. The performance marked their highly anticipated return to Indonesia after 29 years, with their last show held in 1995.

Opening Act: The Brownsu

Opening for Take That was Bandung-based R&B group The Brownsu, who set the tone for the evening with an electrifying 10-song set. Their energetic performance wowed the audience and perfectly built anticipation for the main event.

A Warm Welcome in Bahasa Indonesia

Take That appeared on stage in all-black outfits. The trio, Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, and Howard Donald kicked off their performance with the powerful anthem Greatest Day. The audience was immediately energized as vibrant confetti rained down, creating a celebratory atmosphere.

Mark Owen charmed fans by speaking in Bahasa Indonesia. “Selamat malam, Jakarta,” he greeted, sparking cheers from the crowd. His effort to connect in the local language was a heartfelt gesture that resonated deeply with attendees.

Grateful After 29 Years

Mark expressed the band’s joy at returning to Jakarta after nearly three decades. During the concert, he noticed banners held by fans thanking them for coming back after so long. “It’s been such a long time. It’s amazing to be here again,” he said. He also thanked fans wearing Take That t-shirts, showing his appreciation for their unwavering support.

A Special Gamelan Connection

Gary Barlow shared a nostalgic moment, reminiscing about his music teacher’s fascination with gamelan, the traditional Indonesian instrument. He revealed how the band’s 1995 visit to Jakarta allowed him to see gamelan firsthand.

“It was amazing to witness gamelan when we were here in 1995,” Gary remarked, adding that he felt honored to return to Jakarta after such a long time and perform for their loyal fans.

An Unforgettable Setlist

Take That delivered a mix of their biggest hits, including How Deep Is Your Love?, Back for Good, and Patience, which had fans singing along passionately. The emotional connection between the band and the audience was palpable, turning the concert into a shared celebration of music and memories.
