Gadis Kretek Earns Four Nominations at ACA & G.OTT Awards 2024

The Asia Contents Awards & Global OTT Awards (ACA & G.OTT Awards) 2024, set to take place on October 6 at the BIFF Theater, Busan Cinema Center, has revealed its list of nominees for 11 competitive categories and the jury panel who will determine the winners.

The ACA & G.OTT Awards, now in their sixth year, aim to foster the growth of the Asian content industry. In 2023, the awards expanded their scope beyond Asia to recognize excellence in global content across all media platforms, including TV, OTT, and online. This year, the awards received a total of 201 submissions from 16 countries. After going thorough evaluation by 12 preliminary jurors from around the world, 41 works from 10 countries have been selected as final nominees in 11 competitive categories. The final winners will be chosen by a panel of seven international jurors.

The series adapted from Ratih Kumala’s novel, “Gadis Kretek” (Cigarette Girl), has been on a winning streak since its release. The Netflix Original series, the first of its kind from Indonesia, has secured four nominations:

– Best Creative for Kamila Andini & Ifa Ifansyah
– Best Director for Kamila Andini & Ifa Ifansyah
– Best Lead Actor (Female) for Dian Sastrowardoyo
– Best Supporting Actor (Male) for Arya Saloka

The series competes against other notable works, such as “Blossoms Shanghai,” directed by Wong Kar Wai, the Japanese series “VIVANT,” featuring a lineup of renowned actors, and the popular Thai series “ENIGMA.”

Dian Sastrowardoyo, widely recognized for her role in the film “Ada Apa Dengan Cinta?” will compete with other talented actresses like Park Bo-young from “Daily Dose of Sunshine,”  Nikaido Fumi from “Eye Love You,”  Ariel Lin from “Imperfect Us,”  Zhou Xun from “Imperfect Victim,”  and Kim Hyeyoon from “Lovely Runner” in the Best Lead Actor (Female) category.

Additionally, all nominees in the acting categories are eligible for the People’s Choice Awards, a new award that allows viewers to vote for their favorites. Global voting will begin on September 9 at 15:00 KST through the Kinolights mobile app and website.

The ACA & G.OTT Awards 2024 also introduced the Best Original Song category, featuring songs that have left a lasting impression on audiences, as well as the Best Reality & Variety category, which continues to showcase diverse content, as in previous years.

The seven judges of the ACA & G.OTT Awards 2024, including Japanese actor Nishijima Hidetoshi, known for his role in “Drive My Car” (2021), the Apple TV+ series “Sunny” (2024), and Golden Bell Awards winner Alice Ko, will determine the winners in 11 competitive categories. They will join Baek Mi-kyoung (the writer of “Strong Girl Bong-soon”), An Eunmi (CEO of Pollux Studio), Matsuba Naohiko (executive producer at TV Man Union), Max Michael (Head of Asian Business Development at United Talent Agency), and Ellen Y.D. Kim. (Director of Asian Contents & Film Market).

The ACA & G.OTT Awards 2024 will be held on October 6 at 6:00 PM KST at the BIFF Theater, Busan Cinema Center. In addition to the nominees and judges, various creative talents from the industry will also be present, further elevating the status of this event as a global hub for OTT content.
