Lucid Fall’s Enchanting First Concert in Indonesia

Lucid Fall, a South Korean singer, songwriter, and author, made his debut performance in Indonesia on October 18, 2024. During the concert, he expressed, “I believe the reason I was invited to Indonesia was to introduce the Korean language through my songs. In return, I’ve also learned a little bit of Indonesian.”

He has been active in the arts for many years and has received numerous awards for both his music and literary works. His music often blends elements of bossa nova, jazz, rock, and folk.

The concert, titled “The Minstrel with a Guitar: Lucid Fall’s Music Story,” was organized by the Korean Cultural Center Indonesia (KCCI) as part of the 2024 Korean Culture Month celebrations. The event, held at Soehanna Hall in SCBD’s Energy Building, aimed to further introduce Korean culture to the Indonesian audience.

The concert opened with a recitation of two of Lucid Fall’s popular songs, “Spring Snow” and “Still Here,” in the form of poetry. Anastasia, the 2023 King Sejong Institute speech contest winner, recited the poems in Korean, while Tiffany, a digital influencer focused on Korean culture, performed them in Indonesian.

After the poetry reading, Lucid Fall and his two bandmates took the stage, kicking off with “Spring Snow.” The audience was pleasantly surprised by the calming effect of the song as it began. After finishing the performance, he greeted the audience and explained that “Spring Snow” had been featured as a soundtrack in the Korean drama The Producers about nine years ago.

Lucid Fall continued the concert with three consecutive songs: “River,” “Wind, Where Do You Blow From,” and “Dream of Becoming Water.” The next song, “A Handful of Songs,” was dedicated to himself, as he had recently received an award for his literary work. This was followed by “One Night on the Border,” a song reflecting on a memory with a friend from the past.

Before performing the next set of songs—“Ordinary Man,” “April’s Moon Dance,” and “Still Here”—Lucid Fall gave brief explanations. “Ordinary Man” had been featured in the drama A Killer Paradox and was inspired by his experiences living in Seoul. “April’s Moon Dance” recounts the tragedy of the Jeju Uprising, which occurred nearly 80 years ago, while “Still Here” was written in memory of the Sewol ferry disaster in 2014.

Next, Lucid Fall introduced his bandmates before continuing. The percussionist, Paco de Jin, was humorously described as a native Korean despite his foreign-sounding name, while pianist Yoonseung Cho was praised as a long-time collaborator since 2011 and affectionately called a ‘maestro.’

As the concert neared its end, Lucid Fall performed “Night on the Galaxy Railroad” and “Fisherman’s Song.” He explained that “Fisherman’s Song” tells the story of a fisherman who is content and grateful for his daily catch. He also emphasized that the line “I can sing. Thank you,” at the end of the song, reflected his own gratitude to the audience.

The crowd, eager for more, requested an encore, and Lucid Fall, along with his bandmates, closed the night with two additional songs: “Let’s Move Forward” and “Mackerel.” The concert ended with resounding applause from the audience for an unforgettable evening.
